Synchronized DeFi product rollout delivers full asset management and staking across three blockchain networks

PROJECT OVERVIEW

ABOUT THE CLIENT

This case study is based on a real VNEXT project. The client's identity and certain project details have been anonymized or generalized for confidentiality purposes.

Our client operates in the advertising and brand building industry and was expanding into decentralized finance products for the first time. Given the sensitivity noted above, further detail about the client's identity is intentionally withheld beyond what is necessary to describe the work itself.

THE CHALLENGE

Building on public blockchain infrastructure meant designing around two realities that most software never has to account for: full node software receives frequent version updates that can affect data synchronization, and third party subgraph indexing services offer limited visibility into their own internal data processing. Both needed to be handled at the architecture level from the outset, rather than treated as edge cases discovered later.

Both products also needed to be verified against real DeFi usage patterns, liquidity pools, staking, swap mechanics, and smart contract behavior, rather than a generic functional checklist that would miss how an actual user interacts with a decentralized product.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

The client wanted two connected products built in parallel: a web based platform where users could swap tokens, provide liquidity, and stake LP tokens, and a mobile wallet app where users could manage their crypto holdings directly, both supporting Bitcoin, Ethereum, and BNB Smart Chain from day one.

APPROACH AND METHODOLOGY

Staying ahead of a fast moving technology

Public blockchain infrastructure changes quickly, with node software, tooling, and best practices all evolving in parallel. The team tracked developer forums and ran structured internal reviews to stay current on the underlying protocols, treating that as an ongoing discipline built into the engagement rather than a reaction to problems as they appeared.

Building the data layer for full visibility from the start

Since third party subgraph services offer limited visibility into their own internal processing, the team built its own subgraph implementation from the outset, giving it full inspection and control over the data layer underpinning the swap platform rather than relying on infrastructure it could not fully see into.

Testing the way real DeFi users actually behave

Test coverage was built directly around the business logic behind swapping, staking, and liquidity provision, so verification reflected how a real user would interact with the product rather than a generic checklist disconnected from actual DeFi behavior.

TEAM SCALE

VNEXT staffed both products under one project manager, with as many as 11 engineers on the mobile wallet and 9 on the swap platform, delivered in parallel rather than one after the other.

• Swap platform (web): lets users swap tokens, add or remove liquidity, and stake LP tokens through a responsive web interface
• Wallet app (mobile): lets users manage crypto holdings and deposit or withdraw funds from a native iOS and Android app
• Shared blockchain core: communicates directly with smart contracts and keeps both products synchronized with on chain data across Bitcoin, Ethereum, and BNB Smart Chain
• Custom subgraph service: indexes blockchain data independently for the swap platform's core functions, rather than depending on third party infrastructure

THE RESULTS

Two connected products, a wallet and a swap platform, launched together and held up well once real users started testing them.

• Low severity issues at user acceptance testing: the project closed with few bugs found during client UAT, and the issues that did surface were minor interface and text items rather than functional defects
• Full multi chain support from day one: both products worked across Bitcoin, Ethereum, and BNB Smart Chain rather than launching with a single chain and expanding later
• Independent data reliability: a custom subgraph implementation gives the swap platform's core data full visibility and control, independent of third party infrastructure
• Two products, one coordinated delivery: the wallet and swap platform shipped in parallel under a single project manager rather than as disconnected efforts
